La Flor Dominicana 30th Anniversary Chisel

This was an impressive looking larger cigar with a box press and unmistakable tapered “chisel” head.  The pre-light nose was full, with rich, sweet earthy, cocoa like tones and raisin-like dried fruit.  The cigar had some weight in the hand, tightly packed with no soft spots and still had an extremely smooth and effortless draw.

While warming the foot it produced sweet wood and mild spice notes in the aroma.  Once lit, that spice carried over into the taste and in the nose when retro-haling the smoke.  The spice was full through the nose, but manageable and not overpowering.

The texture of the smoke was full bodied with a dense and creamy characteristic.  Hardly any peppery spice was noticed in the flavor and was more of a background trait in the taste through the finish of each puff.

The aroma had more of the spice, with cinnamon, wood and a mildly sweet, earthy floral tone.  The burn was slow and produced a light grey, long ash.  The second half of the cigar was similar to the first, only deeper in flavor with the addition of cocoa powder traits.   This cigar started with milder strength, building to medium into the second half with a full finish.

It had outstanding, nearly flawless construction that made this effortless to enjoy.  For having such deep and rich characteristics as this cigar did, it was never overwhelming.  Anyone who enjoys smaller format cigars, the box press shape and chisel head makes this much more approachable.  It was comfortable in the hand and won’t strain the jaw.

Just an extremely pleasurable, unique cigar experience.
